A huge thanks to everyone at the Borough of Harrow Swimming club for inviting us to join them and deliver a starts and turns swim clinic. There was lots to fit in, but with very attentive and engaged swimmers, we all had a brilliant time and learnt lots at this clinic. This was followed up with an inspirational discussion, sharing our Olympic journeys and helping the swimmers to set goals and achieve their dreams. It was also great to have coaches involved and open to hearing new ideas.

Thank you to everyone at Borough of Harrow SC for a great swim clinic!

On 18th April, Joe from Swim Swift Elite made the long journey down to Bath, Somerset, to encourage and support those who wanted to raise money and challenge themselves for this incredible cause. Well done and a big thank you to all who took part or supported the event, and raised money for this fantastic charity.

Great News

After 7 months of studying and hard work, Amy from Swim Swift Elite is now qualified in Sports Massage Therapy. This additional anatomical knowledge can only enhance the service we are offering to swimmers to help with their technique & training.

“Swim Swift Elite’s second 2 day camp was held at Welbeck Defense College in Leicestershire on the 9th & 10th of April. Lots of one to one attention was given to all swimmers, meaning that everyone came away with individual feedback for improvement.

After ice breakers with pre-pool priming and conditioning, morning one focused on stroke technique for Butterfly in the pool. After lunch, we talked with swimmers about how to motivate themselves for training and racing, and ways to cope with pre-race nerves. We then got everyone back in the gym to work on their core stability, something so important for swimmers, before heading back into the pool to look at our Backstroke technique.

Day two followed the same pattern, but looking at Breaststroke and Freestyle technique in the pool, flexibility & Pilates, with a fitness circuit to finish off in the gym. We examined race tactics and why we supplement swimming with land work in the classroom.

Overall a fantastic camp! Great facilities at Welbeck Defense College, and we really appreciated the brilliant feedback we have had from swimmers and parents since the camp.”

Here’s what people said:

“The first thing Alfie said to me at the end of the day was ‘when is the next one?’. He has done quite a few other camps and never liked them very much but he loves coming to you. After the first camp he did he got his first ever regional time after a year of no PBs at all and then 2 days after the second camp he got his second one. He’s so delighted and completely attributes his success to you – thank you!”

“My daughter went with high expectations and she was not disappointed. She had a thoroughly brilliant experience and has not stopped talking about the improvements she made over the day. She did ache for a couple of days afterwards having exercised muscles she didn’t realise she had. An extremely productive course. Well done all those involved.”

Swim Swift Elite ran it’s first two day swimming camp at Abingdon School on the 21st & 22nd Febuary and it was a resounding success! The facilities at Abingdon School were fantastic and the staff were very helpful making it a superb venue for us to hold our first camp.

The first day focussed on starts, turns and underwater work for Butterfly as well as Butterfly technique. The second day focussed on the same aspects for Freestyle. There was lots of information given along with two land work outs each day, with specific swimmer injury prevention exercises, pilates, stretching, core workouts and circuit training. Both days had classroom sessions where both of us, Amy and Joe, could share our own stories of what it took for us to move from club level swimming to the Olympic Games.

The brilliant feedback we have received has been overwhelming by all the swimmers and parents who attended. We would like to thank everyone that joined us, and helped make it such a success and enjoyable experience! Due to request we will definitely be running more camps again so please check out our website for future dates.

Here are a few of the comments we have received since our Abington Swim Camp

“Thank you Joe and Amy for an excellent weekend of swimming for Max.

He really enjoyed the two day camp and felt he got a lot of helpful pointers for both his freestyle and butterfly. Having you both give demonstrations in the water was really helpful and a highlight for Max. He told us “I swam in the same lane as an Olympian!”.

“Huge thanks Amy and Jo for a very engaging weekend, it’s clear you really care about individual swimmer progression. The level of 1:1 feedback provided was brilliant:)”

“Wow so much packed into two days – amazing!Just to say an enormous thank you for all of your guidance and support given to the boys at the weekend. They had a great time and you truly inspired them. They took on board so much that you had spoken about and demonstrated.

It was great to watch my son swim at training this evening and put into action some of the tips that you gave.A super dive into the water followed by power on and off were being put to good use in his fly and turns were looking sharp. To name just a few things.Looking forward to watching my son put into action the tips given especially for his 1500m free at the weekend. He really got lots from the training and is going to work really hard on his dive, kick and fly. His father and I are looking forward to watching them further and see how they use the skills to improve their swimming. With Counties coming up they have the motivation. Let’s hope they are able to achieve the goals that they have set themselves.

The training was action packed and encompassed many aspects of swimming both in and out of the pool. Your communication to parents and swimmers was very good and delivered really well in a very friendly manner. The venue was super and the staff were very helpful.

Well done. You are both world class athletes and lovely people too.

Many thanks. Hope to see you again.

Thank you to everyone we met at Abingdon

Swim Swift Elite were invited to visit Wellingborough Amateur Swimming Club during half term for a Butterfly and Freestyle technical session.

The visit started with an introduction and classroom session discussing the importance of land training and competitive swimming. A motivational presentation on racing psychology was also delivered to the swimmers, where Amy and Joe shared their own thoughts and experiences from their competitive international careers. Discussions on how to handle nerves, training and racing mindsets and keys to success followed these presentations.

Both the pool and the classroom sessions ran very smoothly. The swimmers and coaches at Wellingborough were all very keen to learn what we had to offer and the feedback has been great!

A fantastic time was had by all lots of new things learnt! I’m sure we will see them all again!

Rugby Swimming Club continued to take advantage of the Master Class series at the discounted rate! This time they had chosen to work on their swimmers Breaststroke. The visit ran as two, one and a half hour session, splitting the younger and older squads. Amy and Joe were also joined by Commonwealth Medallist and England Breaststroker, James Wilby. James is a Loughborough University trained swimmer who has shown huge improvements of the last 12 months. Last Summer he used his fantastic technique to compete in the final of the men’s 200 Breaststroke, as well as picking up a relay medal. Competing in arguably the most competitive event in British swimming right now, James has to use his great technique to challenge the leaders. So was perfect to demonstrate to the swimmers at Rugby.

Here is the feedback we received recently after our talk at the East Region ASA District Camp.

“We had Joe Roebuck and Amy Smith in their GB kit deliver the lifestyle presentation but with a mix of their experiences thrown into it, relating often to their achievements and preparation of London 2012 Games. This was excellent and they also brought their medals to help inspire the swimmers to aim for that next level”.

“The presenters would be great for both regional events or if you get a club asking for some suggestions, I would recommend these.”

Hitchin Swimming Club developing squads had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a front crawl masterclass with Joe Roebuck and Amy Smith from Swim Swift Elite at the start of 2015. The talk on motivation, breathing and technique followed by a practical session in the pool really inspired our young swimmers, parents and coaching  staff who can now put into practice the techniques on starts, turns  and finishes as well as on stoke technique which Amy and Joe clearly explained and demonstrated.  The swimmers are buzzing from their experience, we highly recommend it.

Here are some of the great swimmers we met at the end of November in Rugby. We attended Rugby Swimming club to work on aspects of Backstroke technique, and land work with the swimmers. A great time was had by all, and lots of new skills and drills were learnt. A great group to work with.
